IT’S the weekend of all weekends in Echuca-Moama with the biggest water ski race coming to town.
That’s right, it’s already Southern 80 time.
An elite line-up of international and Australian skiers, vying for the prestigious superclass title tackle 120 bends and 80km of the magnificent Murray River from Torrumbarry to Echuca at speeds of up to 200km/h.
This adrenalin-charged event attracts thousands of visitors every year and is the biggest event on the Echuca-Moama calendar.
This is the 53rd running of the world’s largest ski race.
The action includes the breakfast with the stars, the Southern 80 Ski Race launch night at The American Hotel, static display in Hare Street and great racing such as the Baker’s Blitz, the presidents invitational top-40 and the Southern 80 ski race.
The Southern 80 is the pinnacle of Australasian ski racing and last year’s winner Merc Force, won the race in 31.10 minutes.
While local crowd favourite The Mistress came a close second in 31.18.
