MORE police will be requested for Campaspe Shire in a letter to Premier Daniel Andrews from Campaspe Shire Council.

In the letter, council is asking for a greater police presence because of rising crime levels.

The letter was also addressed to Leader of the Opposition Matthew Guy, Minister for Police Lisa Neville, Shadow Minister for Police Edward O’Donohue and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh.

Cr Leanne Pentreath said additional police numbers were long overdue.

“When you’re a victim the worst thing you can be told is there aren’t enough police,” she said.

“We need to look at how to reduce shortages and better staff stations.”

Cr Leigh Wilson said modern policing was complex and involved significant stress to officers.

“This is not a comment on the quality of our local police force,” he said.

“But the community are telling us we need more police.

“This letter will serve a clear purpose and hopefully get Daniel Andrews to listen and provide more police to Campaspe Shire.”
