THE Echuca Fire Brigade running team has pulled off what was thought to be the impossible.

Starting 2018 with four runners and gaining another two, the team put together a hose and reel for six competitors - a feat that hasn’t been done in over a year.

While they didn’t win or place, it was a big step forward for the young, inexperienced team.

They got through the heat rounds as a fastest loser with a 44 second run, cutting their time down by a full second in the final, impressing not only themselves but other brigades.

It was just one of many steps forward at the Central and Hume demonstration held in Bendigo on Sunday.

Echuca’s highest finish came in the hose, hydrant and pumper for four competitors where they finished fifth in a time of 16.95 seconds.

Overall in the marshall and pumper events, the team finished just outside the top-five while there is still work to do in the reel events coming up to the state championship in Bendigo in March.

The grand aggregate was won by Kangaroo Flat with a total of 113 points.

Echuca will be hosting three competitions this season, the first being the junior competition on Saturday, February 17 and the senior competition on February 18 at Vic Park, both starting at 9am.

There will also be a twilight senior competition at Vic Park on Saturday, March 3 starting at noon.
