Oh, my stars!

Daniel Phyland and his band of helpers wove 1000 stars to end violence.

IT TOOK three hours and a flurry of helping hands — but Daniel Phyland and his team have done it.

More than 30 people gathered at the scout hall on Saturday to weave a staggering 1000 stars as part of the Million Stars to End Violence project.

The stars will be hung around town in the leadup to the Queen’s Baton Relay in a symbolic stand against violence.

A 15-year-old venturer with the 1st Echuca Scouts, Daniel was inspired to help out with the project after reading about Barry McDougal’s efforts in the Riv.

‘‘It’s a great cause and something we could all get involved in,’’ he said.

While Daniel said it was rewarding to reach the 1000-star goal, he admitted he may need a little break before he starts weaving again.

In addition to thanking Beechworth Bakery, Moama Bakery and Cadell Food Service, who all donated food for the afternoon tea, Daniel thanked everyone who came to help.
