BEFORE we begin racing, there is a lot to know about the great race.
Here are some of the key numbers you need to know ahead of the 2018 Southern 80.
The race will see 219 boats compete. Numbers in the 30s are magic this year.
Two different classes — the 70mph expert and unlimited inboard expert both have 30 entries.
There will be 33 boats competing in more than three different classes and 31 boats competing in just the one class.
The world will be watching this year. Australia’s team crowned six world champions at the World Championships in Seattle last year.
A number of them will be competing.
Sticking with the international feel, 12 overseas competitors will take to the water, 11 from across the ditch in New Zealand, while Justin Legere will be carrying old glory as the sole American competitor.
Back home, 328 towns from across Australia will be represented in the race. Victoria’s most competitors will of course be from Echuca, while the most from NSW will again be from Moama.
