CAMPASPE Shire Council’s volunteers awards program is now open.

CAMPASPE Shire Council’s volunteers awards program is now open.

The annual program acknowledges and rewards volunteers who work across the community.

Mayor Adrian Weston said the program provided a chance to recognise hard-working volunteers who contributed to everyday life across the region.

“The awards are a way of acknowledging and saying thank you to the shire’s outstanding volunteers,” Cr Weston said.

“We have a strong spirit of volunteerism and the positive difference volunteers make through their tireless work can be seen in all facets of community life.”

“From local sports clubs and schools to service clubs and emergency service agencies, the collective knowledge, skills and time contributed by the hundreds of volunteers across our shire makes an enormous contribution to the quality of life we all enjoy, and the overall health and wellbeing of our residents.

“We know these people never seek recognition and reward, but it’s great that we can at least say thank you and acknowledge their support to the community.”

Awards are presented in the following categories:

Individual: an outstanding contribution and achievement in volunteerism by a person

Young person: an outstanding contribution and achievement in volunteerism by a person aged under 25 years

Organisation: an outstanding contribution and achievement in volunteerism by a not-for-profit organisation which supports its volunteers.

There is no limit to the types of organisations that support volunteer involvement across the shire. The organisation could be involved in arts; culture; sport and recreation; health and community service; emergency and safety; environment; conservation; heritage; and youth, just to name a few.

Coinciding with National Volunteer Week 2018 (21-27 May), council’s volunteer awards will be presented at a special ceremony to be held on May 24.

The winners of the individual and young person categories will each receive a prize to the value of $250 and the winner of the organisation category will receive a prize to the value of $550.

The closing date for 2018 volunteer award nominations is Friday, 20 April.

Nomination forms are available from council’s website at campaspe.vic.gov.au or from customer service centres.
