CAMPASPE Shire hopes two recently launched booklets will help people with disabilities plan for emergency situations.

CAMPASPE Shire hopes two recently launched booklets will help people with disabilities plan for emergency situations.

Mayor Adrian Weston said the booklets, ‘Being Prepared for Bushfire’ and ‘Being Prepared for Grassfire’, was an initiative of council’s rural access and emergency management teams.

Cr Weston said it provided people with disabilities useful information on how to best prepare in the event of an emergency.

‘‘The booklets are effective learning tools for those with disabilities to start the conversation about how to plan for and be best prepared when bush and grass fires occur,’’ Cr Weston said.

Designed for people with disabilities, particularly those on the autism spectrum and/or those with learning difficulties, the booklet has been produced with assistance from Echuca Specialist School, Country Fire Authority and the Victorian Department of Education and Training.

‘‘The easy to follow picture book with limited words is intended to reduce anxiety while providing vital information to assist in making decisions in emergency situations,’’ Cr Weston said.

The first of a series of resource booklets, Being Prepared for Storm, Flood and Heatwave will follow with a release date expected later in the year.

Being Prepared for Bushfire and Grassfire will be available at most schools across Campaspe and can be downloaded from council’s website.
