Leitchville-Gunbower celebrate the win during the HDFNL seniors football grand final between Leitchville-Gunbower and North Bendigo

FINALLY, after back-to-back grand final losses, it finally happened in 2017.

Leitchville-Gunbower won the Heathcote and District Football League premiership.

And the club was happy to finally deliver that elusive flag for both communities.

‘‘It’s been a rough couple of years, not only for our club, but for two communities,’’ coach Michael Pilcher said before the season.

Now, the time for celebration is over, as the Bombers host North Bendigo in Leitchville tomorrow.

It was against this side that the flag finally came for the Bombers and North Bendigo will be out for revenge.

The Bombers will also be out to avoid the traps that often befall premiership sides.

‘‘As a coach, you have to avoid that,’’ Pilcher said.

‘‘You have to work hard and keep them motivated. I think starting the season off the way we are will help with that.’’

■ IT WILL be a long opening trip for LBU.

The club is headed for Mount Pleasant to open its HDFNL account for the season.

Returning coach Kahl Oliver said his club was ready after a long pre-season.

‘‘It’s been a long build up, but I’m really happy with how the club is going,’’ Oliver said.

‘‘We’re really excited to just hit the ground and give 2018 a red hot go.’’
