Grammar students on target at club event

April 11, 2018

Mick and Ricky Keirl celebrate after the March shoot.

ECHUCA Moama Field and Game held their third shoot for the year on Sunday, March 18 at the club’s ground on Barnes Road, Moama.

A total of 87 shooters tried their luck on the course designed by junior shooter Jordon Smith, who was assisted by his dad Jason over the weekend.

The targets set were well presented and provided great variety for shooters.

The extreme wind on the day proved challenging as some targets ducked and weaved through the sky. Shooters had to be on their game during the day to bring in the big scores.

A group of 10 students from Geelong Grammar joined the club for the day, shooting in three squads with Echuca members supervising and coaching them along the way.

The boys shoot with the club every year on their way to the Barrook Field and Game school shoot which is held on the Monday after the club’s shoot.

They were well behaved and the club looks forward to their visit again next year.

Club president Ricky Keirl got off to a good start, shooting 24 out of 25 in his first round, followed by a 23 and another 24 to give him the High Gun win with 71 targets out of 75.

Mick Keirl from Riva Fab in Echuca was on hand to help present winners with their prizes, except for his own 1st place win in AA grade which was given to him by the president.

It was great to see such a strong field of junior and sub junior competitors on the day, with local members Harry Wilkie winning juniors with a score of 63, followed by ground setter Jordon on 57, and Tom Cox coming in 3rd with 55.

Sub junior winner was Kyabram member William Brooks on 46, 2nd went to Echuca Moama member Nicholas Cox on 41, with Rhett McPherson from Cobram coming in 3rd with 37.

Thanks to 2 shooters who generously donated their winnings on the day back to the club, all of the kids who shot on the day went home with a prize.

It’s great to see this sort of encouragement from the seasoned shooters for the youngsters.

The clubs next shoot is to be held on Sunday 15th April beginning at 10am. This will be a 75 target event, kindly sponsored by W.B Hunters in Echuca.
