ECHUCA’S Wickham’s Martial Arts Centre played host to a Brazilian jiu jitsu world champion recently.

Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt and world champion Livia Gluchowska paid a visit to the local martial arts centre as part of an ‘ultimate women’s workshop’.

Gluchowska is of Polish-Australian descent, and is a champion of the martial art and combat sport system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting.

Gluchowska, who is also a physiotherapist, gave a presentation and work shop on Saturday to a group of keen onlookers.

Experienced instructors and tutors at the martial arts centre led workshops, working with knowledge to do with self defence.

Also on the day girls and women of the community learnt about martial arts such as Brazilian jiu jitsu, zen do kai, muay thai, self defence and boxing.

The free workshops included stretching and health and nutrition, and were easy to follow, as instructors led women in the community with various abilities and knowledge on the topics.
