WHARPARILLA Lodge residents glimpsed the inner workings of the SES at an excursion on Tuesday.
The outing was organised by Echuca SES deputy controller Bob Callander, who also volunteered at the aged care home.
‘‘I often drive their bus, taking residents to appointments. They’re always looking for new excursions so I thought why not bring them to the SES station,’’ he said.
Bob and controller Ian Marriott gave their visitors a presentation on the Echuca SES’ responsibilities.
Plus a tour of the various ‘toys’ housed at the station.
‘‘It’s great for the residents to hear how we’ve evolved over the years, from the Civil Defense Organisation in the post-World War II era to the SES today,’’ Ian said.
‘‘Some of the residents even volunteered here, one for 18 years.’’
