A TONGALA man has been taken off the road for two years after his third drunk driving conviction.

Andrew Lewis Keech, 44, pleaded guilty in Echuca Magistrates Court on Tuesday to the charge after being caught on Katunga-Picola Rd on January 28.

Police tested him after seeing an open can of alcohol in the console of his car.

He told police he had consumed ‘‘two and a bit cans of light beer and one going now’’ before recording a blood alcohol concentration of 0.123.

Keech, representing himself in court, said he also had a ‘‘bit to drink the night before’’ and that it was ‘‘stupidity’’ that made him get behind the wheel.

With drunk driving convictions in 1995 and 2004 and a drug driving (cannabis) conviction in 2016, magistrate John Murphy asked Keech when he was going to learn.

Mr Murphy convicted and fined him $1000 and cancelled his licence for two years.
