Police want your help to find this van

Police would like to speak to anyone who has had contact with this black van and its driver.

A BLACK van (pictured) doing the rounds in Echuca is causing alarm among the community.

So much so that Echuca detectives are investigating and would like to hear from anyone who has come into contact with the vehicle and its driver.

‘‘Information already received indicates that this vehicle and its driver has been frequenting a number of bush locations around Echuca in the last few months,’’ Detective Sergeant Brendon Murphy of Echuca Criminal Investigation Unit said.

Det. Sgt Murphy said the driver was believed to be living out of his vehicle while in the bush and may have had encounters with people in the bush.

‘‘Some of these encounters have caused some members of the public quite a degree of concern,’’ he said.

‘‘Some have possibly been frightened by this person.’’

An Echuca woman recently posted on Facebook that she and her boyfriend had come across a man, aged 45-50, in a black van flashing a light at them in the bush off Goulburn Rd and Pakenham St.

‘‘He was claiming to be bogged and saying he needed help getting out and it was very clear from our view that he was not bogged, he had just parked his car in a hole to make it look like he was,’’ she wrote.

‘‘(Boyfriend) told him the easiest way to get him out, but he wouldn’t listen ... and kept telling him to get in the driver’s seat of his van.

‘‘At this point I was very scared because I knew his intentions were bad from the things he was saying and started crying. (Boyfriend) also knew he was trying to set us up for something so he quickly put his foot down and took off before anything bad could happen.’’

The vehicle is very distinctive, with graffiti like markings along both sides.

Anyone who has had dealings with this vehicle or its driver is asked to contact the Campaspe CIU office on 54831558.
