THE MAN accused of glassing an Echuca teenager in the neck in March will plead guilty.

THE MAN accused of glassing an Echuca teenager in the neck in March will plead guilty.

Kane Comport, 24, will appear in the Shepparton Koori Court on August 10 after the matter was adjourned on Wednesday in Echuca.

He is charged with intentionally cause injury.

The March 10 attack left an 18-year-old man with a 25cm gash to his neck, missing the carotid artery by millimetres, which required 25 stitches.

The attack allegedly occurred after an altercation between two groups of people in Echuca McDonald’s carpark after Comport and a co-accused were escorted by security into a taxi.

During his evidence at the last court date in April, informant Senior Constable Josh Coombes told the court Comport, armed with a glass stolen from the Echuca Hotel, and the co-accused jumped out of the taxi after a comment was made and ran towards the victim before Comport ‘‘raised the glass and struck him to the left-hand side of the head’’.

The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics before being taken to Echuca hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

The court heard on Wednesday Comport will plead guilty to the charge in August.
