Saturday’s Picola & District League round seven clash was an opportunity for the Deni Rovers’ junior A graders to show what they could do when the Roos travelled to take on Waaia.

Sienna Jenkins, Abbey Wills, Edwina Barclay and debutante Montana Muldoon-Leetham all played their part in a solid 13 goal victory, demonstrating the depth that exists within the club.
Rovers playing-coach Carissa Bulmer was full of praise for the youngsters, saying that she plays people on their merits, not their age.
‘‘Each of the girls stepped it up a gear from their respective age-group games, following the advice given,’’ she said.
‘‘They combined well with their more experienced teammates including myself, Janice Hilton, Chrissy Hurst and Montana Jones.
‘‘Of particular note was Montana Muldoon-Leetham who had the tricky task of coming on in the centre for the final quarter. She did a fantastic job.’’

It’s back to the drawing board for Rovers’ B grade after their 20 goal loss to the classier Waaia outfit.
There were certainly some highlights to be taken away, including Taylah Cochrane’s best on court performance and a second quarter revival when Rovers outscored Waaia, but there is still much work to be done.
The defence worked tirelessly, especially Zoe Sleigh and Kelly Thorpe who are a solid, reliable team and Cochrane who outplayed her opponents, resulting in intercepts and turn-overs.
Unfortunately, the team lacked the overall cohesion that saw Waaia the victors.
Final score, Waaia 41 to Deni Rovers 21.

The Rovers had a tough day in C grade, suffering a 36 goal loss against Waaia.
The Roos didn’t give up and ran it out to the end but were simply no match for the Bombers.
Deni’s defenders worked well in circle with great interceptions and rebounds.

The U17s Rovers went down by two goals in an absolute thriller.
The Roos played well in patches in the tough and wet conditions.
Katie Rogers played another strong game earning awards two weeks in a row, as well as Maisy Edwards who came on at half time to create a real impact.
Waaia were outscored in the final quarter 10 to 3, showing the Rovers have what it takes with a bit more consistency.
Final score, Waaia 30 to Deni Rovers 28.

Deni’s U15s were unable to overcome a slow start, with the Bombers winning by nine goals.
While it was a tough start, the Roos made a great comeback in the second quarter.
Some great pick offs by Holly Amor helped the team to lift while Sienna Jenkins showed her versatility in the ring.
Final score, Waaia 28 to Deni Rovers 19.

The Under 13s Rovers White team had to battle in the wet at Waaia.
After a slow start the Roos were able to dominate the play and most of the ball for the last three quarters.
Trinity Larcombe was a ball magnet, creating many valuable turnovers and was a spectator’s delight.
Erika Martin put her dangerous arms to good use again and was a nightmare for her opposition and Zoe Holloway had a spectacular game in centre, settling the play and feeding the shooters accurately.
Final score, Deni Rovers 34 to Waaia 8.

This week the U11s Rovers Blue team worked hard on their defensive skills.
They read the play and deflected many balls that came their way.
They applied great defensive pressure all down the court creating many turnovers, which allowed them to achieve a scored goal.

The Under 13 Blue Rovers had another greatly improved game in the Deniliquin Netball Association on Wednesday.
They are working as a team and complementing each other nicely.
Reagan Behsman flourished under pressure, dominating in defence, taking many vital intercepts and rebounds.
At the other end of the court Kate Jenkins was dynamite in attack with her ability to drive to the ball and accurate passes.
Lily Cameron never gave up and was a delight to watch.

Rovers White U11s played their best game to date.
The Roos showcased their skills in both attack and defence.
Eve Meharry was a stand out in the mid court and Nakita Graham stood her ground for rebounds and intercepts.
Lexi Hussey provided great options in the mid court and took some fantastic grabs.
