Belinda Egan of Yogi Bee will be holding her own class on Saturday to raise much needed funds for women who may be affected by domestic violence and homelessness, an important cause in her eyes.
"A lot of women who come to my classes do have access to sanitary items and a roof over their heads, but I know there are a lot of women out there who don't," she said.
"And if I can help to minimise that in some way, it's definitely something I want to do."
Share the Dignity founder Rochelle Courtenay said she hoped that the nationwide event would see women coming together to show solidarity and support for those in the community who are experiencing period poverty.
“Every night, 48,000 women face the indignity of not having somewhere safe to lay their heads. We want to see 48,000 downward dog poses as we bring these women the basic dignity of access to sanitary items when they need them,” Rochelle said.
The organisation has distributed more than 1.7 million sanitary items since 2015, and with the number of Australians experiencing poverty and homelessness on the rise, it is expected that the demand for their services will be even higher in 2019.
"I want this class to be focused around gratitude for what we have, as well as being more spiritual," Belinda said.
"After the class we'll be staying for chai lattes and protein balls, a nice way of getting together."
The class will be run at Dynamic Fitness Echuca from 10am with all equipment provided.
Tickets and registration are $20 and can be done through Yogi Bee's Facebook page.
