Kevin Johnson, 34, appeared in Echuca Magistrates Court this afternoon charged with one count of murder after Homicide Squad detectives arrested him this morning.
It follows the death of Matt Alexander, 29, at Daltons Bridge near Cohuna on September 13.
At today's filing hearing, Johnson's lawyer Karin Temperley said her client was an Aboriginal man who was possibly withdrawing from drugs.
"This is his first time in custody. He is anxious but has no formal diagnosis," she said.
Johnson, wearing a grey and black hoodie, sat motionless in the dock with his head in his hands.
With no bail application made, magistrate Megan Aumair remanded Johnson in custody to appear via videolink at Bendigo Magistrates Court for a committal mention on January 22, 2020.
Three other driving-related matters were adjourned to Echuca Magistrates Court on November 12.
A crime scene was established at an Eastons Rd property on September 13 after Mr Alexander was found with life threatening injuries outside his property shortly after 6am. He died at the scene.
Echuca's Daniel Oberin, 28, was charged with one count of murder the next day after handing himself into police.
He remains in custody and will appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on January 20, 2020.
Homicide Squad detectives have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the matter.
