The 25-year-old man was stopped for a roadside breath test on Picnic Point Rd about 6.50pm on Friday.
After returning a positive reading, the Lavington man was arrested and taken to Deniliquin police station, where he recorded a blood alcohol concentration of .137.
Police charged him with high-range PCA, suspended his NSW licence and issued him with a field court attendance notice.
The man was one of 42 drunk drivers caught as part of the road safety enforcement campaign run across the NSW southern region over the weekend.
Operation Drink Drive 1 also saw 25 seatbelt offences detected and 525 speeding tickets issued.
Southern Region Commander Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar said while most road users did the right thing, the message wasn't sinking in with a select few.
“People are definitely getting the message in relation to the dangers of drink driving, but one positive test is one too many,” Asst Comm. Cassar said.
“We will not hesitate to stop a vehicle if we think the driver’s behaviour places everyone in the vehicle at risk of being in a crash.
“The focus on drink driving will not end because the operation has. Anyone who chooses to do the wrong thing on our roads and put others in danger will face the full brunt of the law.”
