To be precise, it's Pauline's 1932 Ford Pick-up.
“I came home from work one day and Pauline had a picture of a yellow one (Ford Pick-up) in a magazine,” Peter said.
“We've got a 1928 A-model Ford Roadster which is very tiny and Pauline wanted a little truck to take to Rod Runs so she could buy stuff to put in the back and take home with her.
“You couldn't even buy a new toothbrush and take it home with the Roadster it's that tiny.
“She wanted the pick-up to have everything her Calais had - a start without a choke, power steering, air-conditioning, central locking, electric windows, a good stereo, so it's got all that.
“I built it to her order.”
Peter built the pick-up from scratch. It is a fibreglass reproduction cab and fenders with the pick-up bed brought out as a flat pack from the United States.
It's built on a 1980 Toyota HiLux chassis in order to gain full registration in NSW.
It is powered by a 302ci Ford Windsor engine with a Ford C10 transmission and a Chrysler Centura rear axle.
The pick-up will certainly stand out at the Rod Run with its bright Holden Atomic green and gold fleck paintwork.
“It was a five-year build and has been on the road for 15 months,” Peter said.
The couple is looking forward to Rich River Rod and Custom Club's biennial motorfest this weekend.
“We've been into hot rods a long time and I've recently retired,” Peter said.
“I'm involved with the Wangaratta Rod and Custom Club and we had our event the weekend gone by where we saw a few of the Rich River members so this is a chance to reciprocate.
“This weekend is a chance to meet up with friends again. It's the social interaction and the cars.
“We're not getting any younger so we might as well enjoy these things while we can.”
