The Rich River Rod and Custom Club's biennial event attracted about 1500 people to Sunday's show ‘n’ shine at Jack Eddy Oval in Moama, with live music, a petting zoo and face-painting making it a family day out.
“It was a magic weekend,” club president Rob Greiner said.
“There were a lot of parents with kids and there was something there for everybody.
“The judges were extremely impressed with the quality of cars.
“They said the preparation of cars over the last five years had improved out of sight and was way above what it used to be.
“We had seven unfinished hotrods there so people could see what it takes to build one up.”
The event began on Frioday night with a drive-in move at Wharpailla West Hall.
“There were a lot of cars there and it was fairly cold but everyone stayed til the end,” Mr Greiner said.
The only hitch was a scratch on the DVD meant the last 10 minutes of the film Deuce of Spades could not be shown.
“Everyone said they would have to go out and buy the DVD to find out how the movie ends, which was a bit of a joke on the night,” Mr Greiner said.
On Saturday, entrants drove out to Gunbower on an observation run before heading back to Echuca-Moama for a ride on the paddlesteamer Hero.
Saturday evening consisted of a meal at the Moama RSL with music by The Mighty Kings keeping everyone dancing until 11pm.
“It was a great meal and a great atmosphere,” Mr Greiner said.
“One of the sponsors came up to me and said what a great time he was having and that was really satisfying.”
Club members were out at the oval at 5am Sunday setting up the big show ‘n’ shine for the public.
“We had 220 car entries of our own and then there were 300 on the day from the public,” Mr Greiner said.
“We had magic weather and there was a great variety on show, from restored cars to vintage and hotrods.
“What did turn up was absolutely fantastic. We had a car from Queensland and a sprinkling of South Australia and NSW vehicles, but most were from Victoria.”
The Mighty Kings performed again and there were stalls and children's activities making for a family-friendly event.
“We received a lot of compliments and everyone enjoyed themselves, which was the aim of the whole event,” Mr Greiner said.
