The road, which is tarmac slightly wider than one lane between Echuca-Mitiamo Rd and Echuca West School Rd, has become unsafe, according to resident Russ Nichol.
“I’ve told council about it previously and some potholes were patched in the gravel on the edge,” he said.
“But it’s a narrow road and to pass anyone you have to get off onto the shoulder — there’s a fair drop from the bitumen to the stone.”
Mr Nichol said the bitumen surface meant drivers would be reaching the signposted speed but would not notice the difference in surface height when negotiating the shoulder, an issue that he said had the potential to be dangerous.
“It’s not as if this is a back road out in the middle of nowhere, but I’ve been told by council the road may not be eligible for repair,” he said.
“It’s getting to a point where it is becoming dangerous, especially with the traffic that uses the road — including a school bus twice a day.”
Campaspe Shire Council infrastructure services general manager Jason Dellar said council had recently been notified of the issue.
“Two service requests for this section of road have been received, on May 21 and 26. The area will be inspected and if the drop-off and length of drop-off is more than outlined in the Road Management Plan, works will be scheduled,” he said.
“The Road Management Plan sets the standard for the maintenance of the road network, including ‘sealed road shoulder drop-off’ — which this request links back to.
“The intervention level is to action an edge of seal drop greater than 100mm for a length equal to or greater than 20m. Our response time to inspect and action is set at 60 days.”
Council said once the inspection had been completed, each customer would be advised of any works to take place.
