But 106-year-old Bupa aged care resident Alice Pollock could do it any day of the week — if you asked.
Mrs Pollock celebrated her special milestone last week surrounded by residents and staff, and enjoyed a visit from her son Bruce and daughter-in-law Elizabeth.
“It was a lovely day,” she said.
“Although I could only see my son and his wife separately, it was still great to see them.”
Mrs Pollock moved to Echuca from Sydney after her husband Bernie died 14 years ago, to be closer to Bruce and Elizabeth.
In her younger years, she loved playing netball and tennis, and attending community hall dances, which is where she met Bernie, the love of her life.
Working as a seamstress and doing clothing alterations at David Jones in George St, Sydney, she has always had a passion for fashion and crafts.
At home, she made clothing for herself, her friends and family, as well as other items such as tablecloths and curtains for her house.
“I loved seeing people fall in love with the items I made for them, it was just so rewarding,” she said.
“Even now, I like to make sure I'm looking good for any occasion.”
She has always believed in daily exercise, whether it be playing sport, gardening or walking, which she believes is one of the reasons she has lived such a long and healthy life.
“I need to make sure I'm moving as much as I can,” she said.
“Every day, I always go for a walk around the building for as long as I can. I don't like sitting still.”
In her time at Bupa Echuca, Mrs Pollock has made an impact on the employees and her fellow residents, including her best friend Joy, with whom she spends a lot of time.
Always the socialite, she also loves to attend any events at the home, such as the Queen’s Birthday Bash held recently, at which she was named queen for the day.
Bupa Echuca general manager Sandi Lavern said Ms Pollock was a much-loved and active member of the home.
“Alice has a mischievous giggle that always puts a smile on our faces,” she said.
“We love her positive attitude, and the way she is always up for an event, particularly any that involve music. She’s always awake at the crack of dawn and rarely misses church on a Friday.”
