Mayor Adrian Weston said the rules had been redrafted in line with the new Local Government Act which came into effect on March 24 this year.
“The rules outline the procedures for council meetings and set the rules of behaviour for those participating and present at the meeting. They also outline the process for the appointment of the mayor and deputy mayor,” he said.
“The new Act is being implemented in four stages, with the requirement for councils to develop and adopt Governance Rules by September 1.”
The rules have been drafted giving consideration to the current Local Law Meeting Procedures and Draft Governance Rules released by Local Government Victoria.
The council will consider public submissions at a hearing on Tuesday, August 4 from 5pm at the Echuca Civic Centre function room.
