While the Scouts and Rovers were helping with car parking at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo, the Cubs were at Cuboree.
They joined 3200 other Cubs, 1300 leaders, Rovers, Venturers and adult helpers at the four-night camp at Gilwell Park on the outskirts of Gembrook in the Dandenong Ranges.
Leader Renee Clark said it was an action-packed four days filled with fun activities and amusements.
“Thanks to our heroes Steve, Tahlia, Nick and Mark for setting up, running the base camp and carting it all home again. The Cubs had an amazing time,” she said.
“Cubs enjoyed many challenges including balancing on one of the biggest seesaws they ever saw and taking on the many mud activities.”
There are plenty more fun activities on the 1st Seymour Scout Group’s calendar, including a canoeing course at Lake Nagambie, Mudbash in June for the Rovers and ScoutHike - a three-day orienteering event in the Tallarook Ranges with 1000 other Scouts - on the third weekend in May.
“A special thank you goes to Steve Ellis. Steve brought the Cub pack out of recess six years ago,” Renee said.
“He has worn several hats while helping keep the Cubs going throughout 2020, including hosting a state-wide online camp.
“This year he took charge of running the district camp’s Cub section activities and then taking Seymour Cubs to Cuboree.
“There has been a huge amount of volunteer work from Steve, and we really have appreciated it.
“Steve is our district Cub Scout leader and will concentrate on that role in the future. Amanda Wyllie is now Akela. Amanda recently completed her Wood Badge.”
