Golf working bee

Visitors are generally effusive in their praise at the magnificent condition of Deniliquin golf course.

Many are also amazed that we have such a wonderful course just a stone’s throw from the CBD and on the edge of a National Park, with 18 holes quality holes that get maintained by such a small workforce, led by greenkeeper Terry Howe.

This workforce does a stellar job, ably supported by dedicated volunteers who assist with course maintenance on a weekly basis, whether through the ‘adopt a hole’ program, moving tees and holes and various other tasks.

Any member who is not a regular course volunteer has an opportunity to ‘do their bit’ this Sunday when a working bee will be held to spray weeds. Anyone available is asked to be at the club about 8am and remember, many hands make light work.

In last week’s events, Saturday was the monthly medal sponsored by Stubbs Wallace Accountants and won by Jill Jeffrey with an excellent round of net 64. Jill also won C grade.

In A grade Peter Oddy had net 67 to defeat runner-up Peter Seely net 70, in B grade Des Ramsey had net 70 and runner-up was Don Alexander net 72, and C grade runner-up was Laurie Hughes with net 71.

There was another good field for Wednesday’s stableford event. A grade winner was Troy Grant on countback from Peter Seely with his second runners-up prize for the week; B grade winner was Bruce Scott on 42, from Simon Blomeley on 39, and in C grade Rob Sobolewski had the best score of the day for the second consecutive week with 45 points, defeating runner-up Brent Bartling on 40.

Tomorrow’s event is the popular Borella Cup, with the winner getting the privilege of drinking from the trophy for the next three months.

The Joker’s Wild jackpot is now at $6,200 and is attracting excellent crowds on Friday nights. Many are also enjoying the quality, good value meals that are available, not to mention the fun atmosphere.

Why not head down to the club tonight for your chance to win big. Tickets are on sale from 6pm with meat raffle drawn at 7.30 and Joker’s Wild at 8pm.
