Lakers off to interleague

Well played: Nagambie sharp shooter Bianca Willis claimed best-on-court honours in her side's A-grade win.

Sarah O’Sullivan fires off the pass in attack.

Sitting pretty on top of the table with five wins, the Lakers have added another feather in their cap with two players selected to represent the Kyabram District Netball League this weekend.

Nagambie’s Bianca Willis and Sarah O’Sullivan, will join Sophie Davies (Lancaster), Kelsey McDonald (Murchison-Toolamba), Fiona Down, Lisa Crosier and Sarah Weidemann (Tallygaroopna), Micaela Adams and Leanna Couston (Undera) in taking on Colac and District Football Netball League in an away fixture on Saturday.

Lakers playing-coach Abby Misiti, Alicia White and Sharni Lloyd were also originally picked in the representative side from Nagambie, but were unavailable to play.

Misiti said it was great for Nagambie to have O’Sullivan and Willis represent the club at interleague level.

‘‘Bianca is in her third year at the club — she’s an accurate goal-shooter and she played interleague last year, so she’ll be really handy for the team,’’ Misiti said.

‘‘She also has a lot of experience, so I think her knowledge on court would be great.

‘‘Sarah is in her second year with the Lakers and she has spent a lot of time on her fitness in the preseason and has been fantastic in the midcourt.

‘‘She’s really fast and has been working hard on her game after playing interleague last year as well.’’

KNDL interleague open head coach Fiona Down said the final team of nine players enjoyed a strong mix of experience and talented youth.

‘‘The team had a strong win against the Golden Rivers Netball League last season and will be looking to continue their winning form,’’ she said.
