Grant Scott designed and set up the course with the help of a few volunteers and the target layout did not disappoint the shooters in attendance.
All shooters commented on the great set-up and variety on offer over the nine shooting stations, which started at the northern end of the ground and worked around to the southern end.
The first shooting station on the course was a great warm-up for what was to come.
There was a low incoming target flying in from the shooters’ left paired up with a crow target coming out from behind the tree line, and dropping around 15 metres in front of the shooting stand.
Shooters started out having two shots at each target on its own, which was followed up by a simultaneous pair.
This is where both targets are thrown at the same time and the shooter has to choose which target to attempt first.
Station three was tucked away between two hills, where a long battue target was thrown high above the trees, and was followed up by a quick crossing standard target from the right.
Thrown individually as double barrel targets, and then as another simultaneous pair, it was quite clear that the crossing target needed to be attempted first.
The last station for the course proved a challenge for some shooters, with a super midi target, which is commonly known as a bee due to its tiny size, thrown from beside shooters across the front of the shooting stand and out towards the trees.
This double barrel target was followed by a rabbit target thrown across the ground, and then a report pair, which had the targets thrown in the same order.
Rushworth member Brendan Hawking had an impressive day out, shooting the first round of 25 targets clean, only to back it up with the second round of 25 also shot clean.
This resulted in Brendan earning himself a 50 badge, no easy feat and very well deserved.
It was local member Steve Norris who shot the highest score on the day though, shooting 24, 24, and then finishing up the day with a perfect round of 25 to finish with an overall score of 73 out of 75.
This score saw Steve awarded the High Gun winner for the day.
With the rest of the scores having handicap added on, some of the day’s winners include Shepparton’s Mick Baldwin with 74/75 in AA grade, Peter McKay from Pinegrove won A grade on 74/75 and Echuca Moama’s Ian Drummond took out B grade with a final score of 73.
With a score of 73/75 another local, and life member, Daryl Scott was the C grade winner, Nikki Rees from Bendigo won the ladies category with a handicap score of 73/75, and Veterans winner was local Roger Kerslake on 74/75. Kyabram’s William Brooks was the junior winner on 69/75 and Echuca Moama’s Izzy Keirl won sub juniors with a final score of 60/75.
The club is now looking forward to our next shoot to be held on Sunday, August 18.
