Men
Tuesday, September 8
David Cockroft’s relentless assistance on the courses is certainly paying dividends, as his understanding of the surrounds saw him torch the field with an incredible +6 in Tuesday’s par event.
Keith and Trev did well but were a distant second and third to Cockroft.
Bill Ramsay was as equally impressive in B grade with Franky and Rex unable to reel him in.
In all, 96 golfers played the east course with -1 on a countback, winning a voucher.
A grade: 1st: David Cockroft (+6), 2nd: Keith McCormack (+2 c/b), 3rd: Trevor Ritchie (+2 c/b).
B grade: 1st: Bill Ramsay (+5), 2nd: Frank Crawley (+3 c/b), 3rd: Rex Howell (+3).
Thursday, September 10
In C grade, Bill Holmfield had a day out claiming the overall best score, whilst eclipsing the in-form Moresco.
Fantastic Fred beat Dave O’Dea in B grade and Speight held at bay a couple of crafty clubmen for A grade honours.
Loader landed a luscious lob on the 15th for eagle.
A total of 105 golfers played the west course, with 34 points on a countback winning a voucher.
A grade: 1st: Neville Speight (37), 2nd: Shayne Trigwell (36 c/b), 3rd: Alan Eacott (36 c/b).
B grade: 1st: Fred Harrison (39), 2nd: David O’Dea (38), 3rd: Craig Griffen (37 c/b).
C grade: 1st: Bill Holmfield (43), 2nd: Neil Moresco (40), 3rd: Alex McCrae (39).
Eagle: 15th — Steven Loader.
Saturday, September 12
After months of middling scores off the white markers, a round off the black brought out the best in many golfers, with 41 points needed in each grade to claim top honours.
Big hitters such as Haw and Caoilfa had exemplary eagles but nothing could stop the consistent good play of Smith, Bronsgeest and Beard from winning.
At the other end of the scale Tuesday victor, Dave Cockroft, was engaged in a see sawing battle with fellow regular Kev Drennan.
Golf was the winner.
In all, 132 played the east course with 36 points on a countback, winning a voucher.
A grade: 1st: Ashley Smith (41), 2nd: Richard Caiolfa (39 c/b), 3rd: Ross Young (39).
B grade: 1st: Chris Bronsgeest (41), 2nd: Craig Griffen (39), 3rd: Axyl Lewis (38 c/b).
C grade: 1st: Max Beard (41), 2nd: Ted Retallick (38 c/b), 3rd: Paul Boek (38).
Eagles: 5th — Neil Haw; 11th — Richard Caiolfa.
Ladies
Monday, September 14
A nine hole stableford competition was held with 21 ladies, the run down went to 16 points.
It was played on the west course.
Overall winners: 1st: Debbie Gniel (19 c/b), 2nd: Lorraine Brough (19), 3rd: Patricia Sanders (18).
Wednesday, September 16
In all, 54 ladies competed in a stableford competition on the west course as the run down went to 34 points.
Glenys Smith won overall with 38 points.
A grade: 1st: Glenys Smith (38), 2nd: Carol Eddy (37 c/b), 3rd: Felicity Douglas (37).
B grade: 1st: Marg Sharp (36), 2nd: Gabi Christians (35 c/b), 3rd: Lesley Mitchell (35).
Veterans
On Friday September 11, 54 NSW Rich River Veteran golfers played stableford on the west course.
The ladies had the best score of the day with Vicki Riddington on 41 points ahead of Toni Beck on 39.
Other good scores were had by Noelene King with 37 points, Susanne Riddington with 35 and the consistent Maree Ciavarella with 34.
Joel Watson lead the men’s field with 39 points, one shot ahead of Bill Ramsay.
Trevor Moody and David Edwards both scored 36 points, with Peter Boek and George O’Sullivan on 34.
The next event is scheduled for October 2 by which time we hope the Victorian veterans will be able to play.
