AT HER third attempt, Shooters, Fishers and Farmers’ Helen Dalton has finally won the seat of Murray, recording an astonishing 22 per cent swing towards her at this stage of counting.
And as much as it’s a vote for her, it’s a vote against The Nationals and their management of water issues surrounding the Murray Darling Basin.
With 34.7 per cent of the votes counted, Mrs Dalton is sitting at 40.2 per cent, with Nationals’ Austin Evans following at 33.4 per cent on primary votes.
Traditionally a conservative stronghold, Mrs Dalton first shook The Nationals’ grip on the seat at the 2017 Murray by-election, where she came within 3 per cent of stealing the seat from the party for the first time in 33 years.
More to come.
