The volunteers from around Echuca, Rushworth and Loddon departed for Port Macquarie yesterday, November 14, and are expected to return on Monday where they will be replaced by extra crews.
They form part of two combined Victorian taskforces of about 300 people who will be supporting crews on NSW's north coast.
Tankers from Echuca, Rushworth and Bamawm Extension, along with a couple of command vehicles from Echuca and Lockington, who have been in the Hunter Valley since Sunday will head home today.
CFA district 20 commander Michael Masters said taskforce one had a busy day on Tuesday defending properties and tackling fires in some difficult weather conditions.
On Wednesday, they headed to Wauchope, Glen Innes, Kempsy and Clarence Valley.
“All six strike teams are in good health and spirits and have had many thanks for their efforts from the local communities and local firefighting agencies,” Mr Masters said.
The Echuca strike team headed to Port Macquarie on Wednesday where many residents passed on cards and other gifts to say thank you.
“It’s thoughts like these that well and truly keep everyone going,” Mr Masters said.
“I want to thank not only the volunteers for putting their hands up, but also their families and employers for supporting them to undertake this vital work to keep another community safe from fire.”
