Jamie O’Loughlin was stunned to receive the generous donation from the anonymous woman who read his story in the Riverine Herald last month.
“I can't believe it,” Jamie said in disbelief.
“For someone who doesn't even know me to do this is just, wow, amazing.
“A massive thank you to this person. I wish I knew who it was so I could tell her in person.”
The money makes up the $800 he lost after the 22-year-old was convinced he was part of a sting operation to catch online hackers last month.
Another woman who wished to remain anonymous had already given him $100 the week before.
Jamie is a fulltime carer for his mother Annie, who suffers from a chronic condition, and was saving the money for Christmas.
“It is hugely unexpected and will go a long way,” he said.
“She has basically fixed my Christmas.”
Annie said it was such a kind gesture after her trust in people had been broken.
“It gives us faith in people again,” she said.
“We can't thank these women enough.”
