Way back in 2015, Rod was a member of the Johnno’s Run team at Run Melbourne, and hasn’t looked back since, notching seven appearances at the event.
“I joined Johnno’s Run in the second year,” he said.
“This was not long after I started running, and it was great to be involved with a big event (Run Melbourne) but with a local focus.”
Despite being part of a larger event initially, Rod enjoyed the fact that he was part of a smaller team helping to support the Opening Doors Project.
“It’s great to be part of a team, most running events I have done have been individual or with friends,” he said.
“Being part of a team adds so much enjoyment when you see other team members during the event.”
A CLRS staff member, Rod has been able to impart his wisdom on the event since it has moved to Echuca Moama, given his involvement in other running events.
“I have a bit of experience running in many larger events and helping with organising small local running events (such as parkrun),” he said.
“It’s great to be able to share my experiences in supporting Johnno’s Run.”
Having witnessed the impact the Opening Doors Project can have on the lives of CLRS clients, Rod is encouraging anyone considering becoming involved in Johnno’s Run to register and help support a very worthy cause.
“I have seen what a difference the Opening Doors project makes to people’s lives, and it’s rewarding to play part in support of the project,” he said.
“So many CLRS clients, families and friends have become active participants in Johnno’s Run over the years.
“It is a truly welcoming event which includes many people who might otherwise feel excluded.
“Sharing the Johnno’s Run experience together is a joy.”
Johnno’s Run will be celebrating its 10th edition on Sunday, August 6. To register for the 5km, 10km or 21.1km event, head to www.clrs.org.au/get-involved/johnnosrun
