As part of Mental Health Month, Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group will be hosting two powerful community events.
The events will double as a launch of Deni MHAG’s ‘Brave Enough’ campaign, ensuring information and pathways to help relating to the topics that will be discussed is available to the community.
Dokic’s journey from teen tennis prodigy to global mental health advocate is a story of courage, survival and strength.
Behind the fame was a young woman enduring years of abuse, trauma and emotional struggle, yet determined to reclaim her life and voice this honest and uplifting talk.
Through her books, her public speaking, and her work in media, she continues to break down stigma and encourage others to reach out and keep going.
And while in Deniliquin, she will reflect on her career, the challenges she’s faced, and how seeking help and telling her story changed everything.
One of the two Deniliquin events is a women’s only dinner on October 17.
This will be centred around women’s mental health, resilience, and the strength found in speaking up and seeking help.
This limited seating event is open to anyone aged 18 and over, and tickets are $120 per person.
Due to significant interest from the community, a second community event has been organised for Saturday, October 18 from 11am to 1pm.
This theatre seating event is open to everyone aged 16 and over.
Tickets for 16-25 year-olds will be $25, and $50 for others.
Deni MHAG vice chair Lourene Liebenberg said whether you’ve faced your own mental health challenges or simply want to support others, you’ll leave these events “feeling moved, empowered, and reminded that resilience lives in all of us”.
“There has been significant interest in these events since announcing what we were hoping to do,” she said.
“It has not been without challenges, but we are incredibly thankful to our supporters, sponsors and donors who are making sure these events are possible with a subsidised ticket price for both events.
“It also enables us to develop the ‘Brave Enough’ campaign.
“Tickets to both events are limited, so we encourage people who are interested in attending to secure their tickets as soon as possible.”
All tickets will go on sale on Friday, July 25 at noon, and event booking details will be available on the Deni MHAG Facebook page.
The booking details will also be publicised on posters throughout the community and advertised in the Pastoral Times next Friday.
