FCJ College VCAL and Year 10 students had the opportunity to attend the Benalla Hands On Trade Expo at Winton on Thursday.
The event provided local students with hands-on experience of various trade activities as well as information on trade career pathways on offer in the local area and beyond.
There were a variety of local businesses and training organisations present including LS Quarries, Australian Defence Force, Victoria Police and Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE.
As well as viewing the various exhibits the VCAL students assisted with the organisation of the event, set-up exhibits, welcomed guests and took part in other event management tasks.
Year 12 student Olivia Antonello said the expo was really useful.
‘‘Attending this day was a great experience for me to further my knowledge on possible careers,’’ Ms Antonello said.
‘‘I was also able to talk to employers about possible work placement opportunities.
‘‘This was an excellent day and I would highly recommend students attend in the future.’’
Zak Best, also in Year 12, said the expo was ‘‘a great chance for students to meet local employers and look at what skills were involved for a career in various hands on trades’’.
