“This funding boost comes under the Drought Relief Heavy Vehicle Access Program, which funds councils for projects to support the increased movement of stock, feed and water, as part of drought relief,” Mr Aplin said.
“This supports the cost of maintenance and minor improvement work on council roads and roadsides, with a particular view of managing heavy vehicle access.
“It’s all part of our support of the drought relief task.”
Since the announcement, 23 submissions from 20 different councils across NSW have been evaluated.
These submissions were assessed against the program criteria and are recommended for funding to the value of $5.8 million.
Further information about the program is available at this Roads and Maritime webpage, emailing roadfreight@rms.nsw.gov.au, or by calling the local Roads and Maritime regional office.
In July last year, the Liberals and Nationals in government announced a $500 million Emergency Drought Relief Package, taking the NSW Liberals and Nationals total drought support to more than $1 billion.
