‘‘It’s often the challenges that create the biggest opportunities,’’ Locky Hemphill said of his farming experience.
Since returning to the family farm of 65ha, 10 years ago, today — together with his brother Will — Mr Hemphill farms 800ha, and produces nine million litres of milk from a herd of 950.
Mr Hemphill will outline the farm strategies he has adopted and the progress they are making in achieving their goals at the DairySA Central Conference.
The conference will be held on Thursday, March 14 at Tailem Bend.
Speakers will focus on the theme of Diverse Dairy: Driving Opportunities.
Keynote speaker Robert ‘Bob’ James, is world-renowned expert on calf feeding and management.
Dr James’ years of experience and research in calf rearing advocates that no matter what size or system the dairy farm, the best cows come from raising better calves.
His hands-on approach to calf rearing will challenge delegates to identify their current and potential calf rearing practices, while detailing top calf rearing tips to reach the full milking potential of a herd — by getting it right from the start.
