A day out at the football will provide the perfect opportunity for Deniliquin locals to raise awareness of mental health and suicide prevention in their community tomorrow.

More than just a normal footy round, the Picola & District League round 15 matches between Deniliquin Rovers and Blighty, held at Memorial Park, will be played throughout a day dedicated to the local mental health and suicide awareness campaign, ‘Thought. Talk. Tackle.’, run by leading mental health organisation Wellways Australia.
With one in five adults currently experiencing mental health issues and nearly half of our adult population (45 per cent) expected to experience mental health issues at some stage in their life, opportunities to engage with and share in local community efforts to raise awareness is important.
‘‘Every life lost to suicide is one too many,’’ Wellways regional manager Zoe Evans said.
‘‘That’s why this Saturday is so important. ‘Thought. Talk. Tackle.’ encourages talking about and tackling mental health concerns, instead of ‘bottling it up’.
‘‘Deniliquin locals and the wider Murrumbidgee community are known for their can do, positive attitude, but we all need support and times to check in with family and friends. And most of all, we all need opportunities to talk about our mental health.’’’
This Saturday’s activities will include free haircuts from JL the Barber, a foot race at half time of the seniors and live entertainment featuring Lachlan Downes and DJ JL following the main game.
