GUNBOWER and District Kindergarten was all smiles recently, celebrating Dental Health Week as part of Campaspe’s Smiles 4 Miles oral health program.
This year the theme of Dental Health Week is ‘watch your mouth’ — a theme families in Campaspe Shire are being urged to live each day.
‘‘We know good oral health is essential to overall health and wellbeing, and we also know good habits that can be carried through to adulthood are learned early in life,” Echuca Regional Health Smiles 4 Miles co-ordinator Jacinta Masters said.
Smiles 4 Miles is an initiative of Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) which aims to improve the oral health of Campaspe’s preschool aged children and their families by encouraging healthy eating, healthy drinking and good oral hygiene through three key messages: drink well, eat well and clean well.
During Dental Health Week, which was held from August 6 to 12, DHSV supported the Australian Dental Association’s (ADA) campaign ‘‘watch your mouth – not just your teeth, not just your gums, but your whole mouth”.
Through DHSV’s Smiles 4 Miles program, the health promotion team at Echuca Regional Health aim to spread the message of the importance of good oral health habits for the whole family.
