A grade Tigers too tough for Jerilderie

By Southern Riverina News

Jerilderie’s A grade were simply no match for second-placed Katamatite in round 14 of the Picola & District League on Saturday.

While the Demons have worked hard the last few weeks, they were unable to defeat the height of the Tigers.

Plenty of changes were made throughout the game to help Jerilderie.

Sara Smith moved from defence into WA and showed the squad how well she can attack and pass into the ring.

Skye Nash also had a swap defending in the ring covering her opponent well and stopping the ball from getting into the ring on many occasions.

Final score, Katamatite 63 to Jerilderie 27.

Awards: Wunnamurra - Sara Smith, Colony Inn - Skye Nash.

A really strong team effort from both the attacking and defending ends enabled the B grade Dees to secure a three goal win against Katamatite.

With both teams deadlocked at 14-all at the end of the first quarter, it was evident the Demons would have to work hard in the second quarter to get above Katamatite, however Jerilderie trailed by a couple of goals at half time.

A big change in positions for the third quarter offered a new approach to the play, enabling the Dees to create a strong defensive pressure down the court, which allowed intercepts to be plucked left, right and centre.

Going into the last quarter two goals down, Jerilderie’s shooting was unstoppable.

The Tigers may have kept up, but the Dees weren’t letting anything get in their way.

Final score, Jerilderie 50 to Katamatite 47.

Awards: Barlow Ag - Tash Shaw; Jerilderie Sports Club - Ellie Marshall.

C grade final score, Jerilderie 48 to Katamatite 37.

Awards: Laura’s Tanning - Emily Ford; Colony Inn - Fee Edwards.

C reserve final score, Jerilderie 43 to Katamatite 19.

The Under 15s Dees got off to a good start against Katamatite, leading by four at the half time break.

Unfortunately in the final quarter the Tigers came out firing and overran Jerilderie to win by two.

It was a miserable morning for netball with the wind strongly favouring one end.

The Demons played with spirit, but were unfortunately beaten by the better team on the day.

Final score, Katamatite 28 to Jerilderie 26.

Awards: Colony Inn - Alex Patu; KSB Accounting - Tori Lawton; Mungo’s Repairs - Mia Neessen.

Jerilderie’s Under 13s scored a thrilling three-goal win on Saturday.

The Dees played a great team game, working well through the centre, defence and in the shooting end.

Jerilderie showcased much better movement in what was an outstanding performance.

Final score, Jerilderie 21 to Katamatite 18.

Awards: Mungo’s Repairs - Abbey A’Vard; Magic Scissors - Emily Marshall; Colony Inn - Georgia Belling.

Jerilderie’s Under 11s are starting to work together to bring the ball down the court to the ring.

The Demons played a few different positions this week and did well.
