HEATHCOTE Panthers Basketball teams have had another successful Bendigo Basketball Summer Season, with three of four teams through to this week’s finals.
The Panthers under 14 division three girls have finished third on the ladder at the end of the summer season and marched into the semi-final game on Monday against the Bunjils.
With half of the team playing in their first season of basketball, this has been a great effort by the girls and coach Oliver Geary.
In their final regular game, the under 14 division four boys needed to win to get a berth in the finals. And win they did, beating Aztec Tigers Green by a significant margin of 82-8.
The Panthers moved to fourth out of 11 teams on the ladder.
The boys face off against Aztec Tigers Gold in the semi-final tonight at 6pm.
The under 16 division two boys’ also played a do-or-die game last Friday, needing to advance from fifth to fourth out of nine teams on the ladder to qualify for the finals.
Winning convincingly against Strathfieldsaye Raptors 45-14, the boys have now secured a semi-final berth with Generals Mavericks for this Friday at 7.40pm.
The season has finished for the under 12 division three boys team who, despite not being a contender for the finals, last Friday toppled its opponents Camp Hill Devils.
The Panthers won 30-22 and in doing so recorded the first victory against the previously undefeated Camp Hill Devils who finished on top of the ladder.
A debut season for four out of the seven players, the Heathcote Panthers club is confident of many years of success for this young team as it continues to develop in the future.
