Home club wins tournament

HEATHCOTE Bowling Club hosted its annual Invitation Fours Tournament on Sunday, with thanks to sponsorship from Heathcote IGA.

The tournament was played in fine and warm conditions and consisted of four games of 10 ends.

Teams took part from Stanhope, Colbinabbin, Seymour, Seymour VRI, Rushworth, Rochester and Heathcote.

At the end of the day two teams had won all four games they played a team from Heathcote skippered by John McGillivray and a Stanhope team skippered by Greg Fitzpatrick.

These two teams contested a four-end play off to decide the winner, with the Heathcote team coming up trumps winning four shots to nil.

The victorious team comprised John McGillivray (s), Deryl Binney, Glen Saunders and Grant Baker, while the team from Stanhope was formed by G. Fitzpatrick (s), D. Millard, B. Williams and J. Patterson.

The Heathcote Bowling Club would like to congratulate Johns team on winning the Annual Invitation Fours and would like to thank IGA Heathcote for their continued sponsorship of the tournament.

Social Bowls.

On Wednesday, in fine and warm conditions, 12 bowlers played three games of pairs.

The winners were Greg Speirs (s) and Ellis Knight (3 wins, 45 points, +24 shots).

Runners-up were Smokey Dawson[ (s) and Lorraine Speirs (three wins, 43 points, +13 shots), from Hal Dihm (s) and Ken Reader (two wins, 28 points, +1 shot). The jackpot was not won.

On Saturday, in hot conditions, 13 bowlers played three games of pairs and triples.

The winners were Sharyn Vowles (s) and Lorraine Speirs (three wins, 44 points, +6 shots).

Runners-up were Brian Taylor[s] and Ken Reader (two wins, 31 points, 0 shots) from Smokey Dawson (s) and Frank Cutajar (one win, one draw, 27 points, +4 shots).

The jackpot was not won and will be $200 today.
