FORMER Kyabram girl Julie Crockett-Grills, left, made her debut with Geelong in the opening round of the Australian Football League’s Women’s competition last Saturday night.
And it was a debut to savour for the talented sporting all rounder, with Geelong, making its debut in the competition, beating Collingwood by a point in a thriller.
Julia’s parents, Kyabramites Steve and Claire Grills, were among the 18,000-strong crowd at the GMHB Stadium in Geelong to cheer on Julia and Geelong.
Steve said Julia played mainly onball and gathered nine kicks and three handballs.
‘‘She got injured (corked leg) in the third quarter and didn’t play much in the last quarter but she did quite well,’’ added Steve.
Geelong takes on reigning premier Western Bulldogs this Saturday, another side that won by a point in the opening round.
