The Anzac March will begin at 9.50am across from the hospital on Fenaughty St, and the service will begin at 10am at the Memorial Gardens.
Kyabram RSL sub-branch vice-president Graeme James said this day holds a special meaning for everyone in Australia.
“It’s a time we are able to reflect on what these soldiers sacrificed for us,” he said.
“A time we like to remember and deeply think of them and how lucky we are that because of what they gave up we are able to live in peace and democracy in Australia.’’
Free tea, coffee and a barbecue will be supplied in the memorial gardens thanks to the Lions Club after the Service. There will also be an opportunity to get competitive over a traditional game of two-up in the Kyabram Club Courtyard after the barbecue.
Stanhope and Girgarre
This year the Stanhope RSL sub-branch will hold its Anzac Day Service on Sunday, April 28 at the Cenotaph in McEwen Reserve. The parade will assemble at 1.45pm, and march at 2pm. The sub-branch is encouraging anyone who would like to lay a wreath to attend this part of the service. The wearing of relatives’ medals and awards is encouraged during the march.
A second short service will take place at the Community Hall at 2.15pm, which includes a guest speaker and afternoon tea.
Stanhope RSL will host Girgarre RSL members on the day.
Stanhope RSL president Phil Chapman said Anzac Day provided the opportunity to thank those who put themselves in harm’s way so we could enjoy our freedom.
‘‘It is our responsibility to see their service and sacrifice is not forgotten, so we say ‘Lest We Forget’,’’ he said.
‘‘It is also important we do not belittle or dismiss that sacrifice. If we do, we belittle ourselves and become unworthy of their selfless gift.’’
