Work your hardest to get to the top.
But if you do, they might just pay off in a way that you would never have expected.
Alex Vicary is about to live that dream.
The 15-year-old is off to Queensland to hopefully take the world of dance by storm.
Vicary has earned a position at the Dynamite Performing Arts Academy High School — a Queensland facility that combines her schooling with professional dancing training.
Her place at the academy means that on top of her regular hours of schooling, she will be taking part in as many as forty hours of dancing every week.
It’s a dream come true for Alex.
‘‘I’m so excited to be going to the academy,’’ she said.
‘‘It has been a lot of hard work in order to get into this position, and it will continue to be a lot of hard work from here on in.
‘‘But I’m so happy that the hard work has paid off to get me this opportunity.’’
She isn’t kidding when she says hard work.
Alex started dancing at the ripe old age of three and has since taken on whatever style she has encountered.
And this will have a big impact on the young dancer at the academy as she looks to sharpen her skills.
Alex qualified for admission to the academy through a full audition process.
‘‘I had to send a video to the academy so we recorded one of my performances and sent it to them for their consideration, and thankfully they liked what I have been doing and they have now offered me a place with the academy.’’
While the move is drawing ever closer, she hasn’t allowed that to stop her practicing and performing, with the Riv invited to the iDance studio to see her perform this week. But now, attention will have to turn to the move, which is within days.
‘‘I’m heading to Queensland on Sunday,’’ she said. ‘‘I am a little bit nervous about where I am going and what is going to be in store for me at the academy, but I also know how hard I have worked and feel that the people around me have prepared me well for what comes next in my life.’’
