‘‘On this occasion we’re moving from the traditional places where we held our exhibitions, so the halls and things like that, to an art gallery and that’s a huge step forward for us,’’ she said. ‘‘It’s also in keeping with the way quilting is going; away from traditional quilting and more into textile-style art. It’s really evolved over the years.’’
The exhibition, which opens next week, will feature new textile-style pieces, as well as the traditional quilts.
‘‘There will be a large variety of quilts both in characteristics and size,’’ Mrs Wray said.
As part of the exhibition, members have been challenged to enter a piece about the group’s 25th anniversary.
Mrs Wray has entered two quilts, one of which features accoutrements of patchwork and quilting, the 12 ‘‘luscious ladies who formed the group’’ and members’ names embroidered onto it.
‘‘This is a significant year for us because it’s 25 years since the founding of our group in July 1994 and during those years there’s been some ups and downs and our membership has been as low as four but it’s currently sitting at around 40.’’
The exhibition runs from Friday, May 24, to June 2 with a demonstration held every day at 12.30pm.
They include Leigh Compton with embroidery; Colleen Wray (baglique); Sue Solly (printing photos onto material); Chrissy Hislop and Carol Martin (round robins); Kerry Cox (free motion machine embroidery); Heather Berryman (sashiko); Lyndall Caddaye (felting); and Ann Halden and Val Collis (textile art and confetti work).
