Her hot hands and scrumptious baking skills led to her winning the State Final at the Victorian Agriculture Show (VAS) for her delicious date and carrot muffins in the junior section.
‘‘I got the call and it was just amazing news,’’ Rose said.
With mum Margie by her side, Rose grew up making and tasting delicious treats.
‘‘I used to set her up in the high chair and she would have the mixing bowl and she would help out where she could,’’ Margie said.
‘‘She just loved it.’’
From about the age of eight, she began entering her creations in the Echuca Moama and District Agricultural Show where she began to shine.
‘‘I used to make all the necklaces with the Fruit Loops as well as the painted rocks and then as I got older I moved onto baking,’’ Rose said.
At 16 years of age, some may say her interests differ from other girls.
‘‘Not a lot of my friends are interested in baking, but that doesn’t matter,’’ Rose said.
After making her mark in the local competitions, she knew it was time to kick it up a notch.
‘‘With a lot of the cooking at the show, that’s it, you can’t go any further. Whereas when you enter in competitions like VAS, you can take your cooking further,’’ Margie said.
‘‘Although with the carrot and date muffins the competition finishes at State level.’’
Last year was her first time entering in the VAS competition and although she didn’t place, this gave her all the more reason to come back this year.
Rose’s muffins got her to the District competition, onto the Regional competition and from there to State level where she of course took out top spot.
And she isn’t stopping there.
‘‘I just want to keep entering and see how I go,’’ Rose said.
