A SERIAL drunk driver caught drug driving has been convicted and placed on a community corrections order. Ryan Burgess, 33, pleaded guilty in Echuca Magistrates Court late last month to the charge.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Dave Rennie said Ryan was stopped on Ogilvie Ave on February 3, with a drug test indicating meth in his system. He told police at the time ‘‘I’ve got no drugs in my system’’.
Representing himself in court, Burgess said he meant he hadn’t taken drugs in three days.
‘‘I went to someone’s house and they put it in my drink and it was three days until I drove,’’ he said.
The court heard Burgess had seven months left of a CCO to complete, including 100 hours of community work and treatment for anger management. Magistrate Sarah Leighfield said records showed Burgess had a lengthy driving history.
She ordered him to perform 30 hours as part of a six-month CCO and cancelled his licence for six months.
