THREE occupants of a car fled after it smashed into the back of a semi trailer and crashed into a fence at Echuca Motel yesterday.
Senior Constable Scott Jones of Echuca police said the Holden Commodore Statesman had flown around the corner of McKenzie Rd into Ogilvie Ave and clipped the back of the semi before spinning into the fence about 1.30pm.
‘‘By the skid marks, he’s gone too quick and come out into the intersection and collided in the middle of the intersection with the semi trailer,’’ he said.
‘‘The semi trailer has pulled over and the car’s flipped around and hit the fence and all occupants of the vehicle — two males and a female — fled the scene on foot.’’
As well as police, Echuca-Moama Search and Rescue and Echuca CFA attended to clean up fuel that was leaking from the car.
‘‘Our job here is to ensure the safety of everyone else around here and because there’s fuel leaking, we need to be really careful about that,’’ he said.
Traffic was delayed for about 30 minutes.
The Commodore had to be towed from the scene.
