The Changing Places bathroom is set for the Echuca High St car park with works expected to take about three to four months to complete.
Council economic and community development general manager Keith Oberin said the project was driven by community voting via a survey which identified Echuca as a priority location.
‘‘The Changing Places facility will enable people with a severe disability the opportunity to be more involved in their community, breaking down social exclusion,’’ he said.
‘‘Many people with high support needs find it difficult to leave the house for more than a few hours so they avoid accessing the community for a range of everyday situations that we all take for granted.’’
Mr Oberin said about six per cent of the Campaspe population had a disability which required daily assistance.
‘‘Many people with high support needs, along with their carers find it difficult to leave the house for more than a few hours so they avoid accessing the community for a range of everyday situations that we all take for granted.
‘‘This facility will be very beneficial to members of our community.’’
Each facility has adjustable height, an adult-sized changing bench, a tracking hoist system, enough space for two people and provides a safer, cleaner environment.
