Campaspe’s acting Inspector Dave Rowe said an unmarked Operations Response Unit mini bus was hit from behind as it was driving from the bridge roundabout along Sturt St, turning into Anstruther St, about 6.30pm.
‘‘It definitely was not an intentional act according to the CCTV,’’ he said.
Police attempted to stop the white Nissan twin cab ute, but the male driver took off.
Insp. Rowe said at one point, the vehicle stopped and members approached the driver who was ‘‘unco-operative and refusing to comply with police requests’’.
Police then drew their firearms but the driver took off.
A six-minute pursuit through the streets of Echuca east followed, but police called it off after identifying the driver.
‘‘The driver was identified as a male from the Geelong area that police wish to speak to about other matters," Insp. Rowe said.
